I WAS PRIVILEGED to share the Youth Impact Award with Shawnta - TopicsExpress

I WAS PRIVILEGED to share the Youth Impact Award with Shawnta Pulliam at the 2015 MLK Awards yesterday. I was also privileged to be one of 2 speakers (the other being Tiffany L. McCloud) at the reception held at Gannon after the march today. When I spoke I threw out my speech, aside from some facts about the iconic, grassroots civil-rights organization, SNCC (Student Non-violent Coordinating Committe). There were so many of our elders in the room that I respected that God compelled me to acknowledge the work of their generation from Irma Lindsey, to Johnny C. Johnson, to the Horton family, to Bobby Harrison, to Alex Thompson and the many passionate Bishops and Pastors of this community. Shawnta, Tiffany, myself and countless others have had the groundwork laid by these soldiers of community. It is my belief that they brought energy and organization to community issues in a way that we have yet to live up to. The good news is that were willing and able as long as we keep God in the drivers seat. I said in my acceptance speech that its amazing what can be accomplished with a willing slave and an able master. Any of us can be used as agents of change, we just have to show the willingness and the master will take care of the rest.
