I WEDDED BEFORE MY EMPLOYMENT OFFER – MY MARITAL STATUS CHANGED - TopicsExpress

I WEDDED BEFORE MY EMPLOYMENT OFFER – MY MARITAL STATUS CHANGED AND EMPLOYER IS UNAWARE I was caught up in one of the interview processes that span a period of three months. I now have the offer but what is different is that I am newly married through a wedding that took place the weekend before my appointment. I understand that the marital status may determine the cost of employment and influence employability. When should I register this new development to my prospect employer? Answer It seems as if you have been pursuing this job with a gambling heart. You were not optimistic of being appointed and therefore, there are certain realities of your social life that did not seem to matter to your prospect employer. I suppose at some point in the interview, you declared yourself single knowing very well that your wedding was due in less than three months. Perhaps, you got the impression that the job offer could be made in less than a month’s time and issues of your marital status and with specific attention of your wedding, would be declared once you are in employment. This is a very irresponsible attitude. Try to imagine that the employer had stringent conditions against that employee that they wanted in since the budgetary allocation could only allow a single staff with single insurance cover. The employer may cancel your appointment on the basis of misrepresentation. It may sound light but it is as serious as declaring a degree certificate that you do not have. If the employer does not cancel your contract, be sure that you will have entered a category of employees in the organization that cannot be trusted. This is not a pleasant impression to be created with a new employer. There are also some other information that may often be left out by an employee that may affect employability. Such may include realities such as expecting a new born and loan obligations with a previous employer or staff savings society. Such are the obligations that may create immediate needs for interventions from a new employer. Such may include the need to offer guarantee for a loan and the need to set aside some leave days for maternity or paternity with possible financial support. It is important that you declare information on matters that eventually will determine your employment cost in advance. These are matters that may not be actual at the point in time but are likely to come to effect either before you get employed or immediately you are employed. If you do not declare such, you may make even the noblest realities to portray you differently. Taking a few days to go for a holiday to make your marriage anniversary within the first month of your employment, for instance, may project you as too aesthetic since in your first months, people expect you more to tow the company agenda rather than your own. When such priorities are known in advance, then you are likely to be understood. While some may not be foreseeable, it may be necessary to let the employer know if there are any immediate updates. For instance, you may consider calling a prospect employer to inform them of wedding date that has just been set – especially if it is sooner than your had thought. Most job seekers would find it easy to call to reveal a counter offer by a different employer rather than such realities that a parent has contracted a medical condition that may require your travel abroad with them, for instance. Declaring a wedding date that is hardly two months may also project you differently. You may come out like uncoordinated. The employer would expect that you could be the type that fits in to the convenience of the entire extended family – attending a funeral each week and taking leave off for birthday parties.
