I WILL BE IN THE RACE, ASSERTS MUDAVADI:FORMER deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi has said he will vie for the presidency again come 2017, telling his opponents to get ready for the battle. ‘’I have not given up, I’m still in active politics and will be back in 2017 presidential race,’’ said Mudavadi. Mudavadi, who ditched the ODM in the lead up to the last General Election, said he owed nobody an apology for his political move. He said his decision to run for the presidency was a response to calls from his supporters. He made the remarks at the funeral of the former Lurambi Member of Parliament Jonathan Masinde in Lwandeti, Kakamega county. The UDF leader told Luhya leaders not to shy off from contesting for the presidency as they were capable of producing a leader. Mudavadi ,who came third in the last presidential elections, asked the community to unite so they can vote as a team in the next election. “I have been uniting our people. When I stood for the presidency, there were challenges centred on deception, but I’m ready to do the same again if you ask me,” he said. He asked the Luhya community to be resolute and believe in themselves if they harbour any ambition of catapulting one of their own to State House. “I wonder why people in this region voted for everyone else but their own?” he asked. He said he is a national leader who will resist any attempt to be dragged into tribal politics. Jealous lot But speaking at the same funeral, Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula said jealousy amongst Luhya leaders will make them not ascend to top leadership in the country. ‘’In the last election, there were five of our brothers vying for presidency although they chickened ou t, and left Mudavadi alone,’’ he said. He said despite stepping out they had already confused their supporters. The Ford Kenya leader said unless leaders from the region swallow their pride and rally behind one person, they will never lead the country. Vihiga Governor Moses Akaranga said he was going to ensure the community is united. He said since the late Vice- President Wamalwa Kijana died, the community had never pulled in one direction.
