I Was More Than A Building By Judy Dorr Hanscom I was more than a building Thats why they all came They knew me so well because they all knew my name People traveled by car, by boat, or by bus We didnt care how they got to us They came for a meal or just a piece of pie Where they would talk or laugh or perhaps even cry Familiar faces flocked to my door How could I possibly ask for anything more? I was more than a building of that I am sure Hundreds of people walked through my door Some folks only came once a year To hug an old friend or even shed a tear My walls were quite old and I was a bit run down But that didnt seem to matter to the folks in town I was not perfect of that I am sure But that didnt stop people from coming through my door Most understand that things arent always the same People make a business no matter your name Owners have tried, they didnt always get it right But try they did with all of their might They all cared a great deal for me To them I was more than a name you see I was their life, like a very best friend And they stayed by my side until the very end They say I will be back and become brand new How exciting is that for me and you? So until that time, my friends IT wont be long until I see you again I was more than a building of that I am sure I will look forward again to have you walk through my door
