I Wrote this for an assignment last term about identity: Music - TopicsExpress

I Wrote this for an assignment last term about identity: Music can play a massive role in anyone’s life so I won’t claim to be special in that sense, however I remember very clearly being introduced to the music of Korn and the lyrical and spastic performance style of lead singer Jonathan Davis. This was the first man I saw cry as he was singing about feeling isolated, misunderstood and wanting to be allowed to be himself. Essentially Korn were a band for outsiders and there is no doubt that I was, and will probably forever be, an outsider. I could write an entire book on how Korn have helped me cope with the frustrations and limitations attached to my disability, but I’ll keep it short. Jonathan Davis used his negative feelings as motivation to create music which made millions but also saved a lot of lives. I took that attitude on board and began to express myself through poetry. I shared my poems with teachers and family members and made many people cry. That felt cool in a way at the time, I probably wanted to hurt people with my words. At school my poetry was encouraged, at home not so much. I hate the fact I hurt my family with some of what I wrote, but I could not physically lash out, and I was a teenager. It was really hard to choose a song as an example of a song that represented my feelings as a teen but I think “thoughtless” (click to play) does the job. The song basically is about being bullied and waiting for the day you will prove everyone wrong. I have never been bullied really but I was expected to do nothing with my life, at least that’s how I saw it at the time. To this day I still feel underestimated due to the fact I look the way I do https://youtube/watch?v=TBvHAA14iIs
