I absolutely 100% agree. I can remember my very first managerial job when I was just 20 and my boss said to me, you need to stop trying to be everyones friend all the time. She said that they didnt need to like me (although thats nice) but they did need to respect me. I realized this was true and I 100% believe it is true as a parent. We have clear and simple rules in our family such as tidy up after yourself, be in bed by, all handheld electrical devices such as the kindle, PS vita... to be switched off and put in the basket by a certain time, good manners, respectful of others, homework is done first.... Our children are learning every day and its okay for them to get upset, angry... its how they learn to deal with there emotions. Lets play this out in two ways: 1. Child wants something, parent says NO! Child cries and parent gives the child what they want. (result = Child learns to cry to get what they want) 2. Child wants something, parent says NO! Child cries and parent is understanding but still says No! (result= the child learns to deal with emotions and learns to trust and respect the parent. They believe that when the parent says no, they mean no and they can trust them. Parents, you need your children to trust and respect you!!!) Id love to hear what you think.
