I absolutely HATE the So what do you do? question. I find it rude to ask complete strangers what they do for a living. Usually the people asking are not at all interested in what kind of work someone does. Asking, So, what do you do? usually is just a way for people to size up the other person, determine their level of education, judge whether that person is on the same intellectual level as themselves and figure out if they are within the same income bracket as they are. Its not innocent small talk, IT IS RUDE! Personally, I hate how so many people in this country define themselves by how they make money. Ones job, occupation or career does not constitute who someone is intrinsically nor does it determine their level of worth as a human being.
