I absolutely love this and remember when he did it live. I also absolutely love Red Skelton. You wonder why I often say, God Bless as a parting salutation? When I was a little kid, our family always watched the Red Skelton Show. At the end of every broadcast, while wiping sweat from his brow, he would walk forward on the stage, toward the camera, wave at the home audience, and his last two words were always, God Bless. He was the only celebrity that did that. He was born just before the beginning of WWI and his first show was the year I was born. As a kid, I would watch his show, waiting for him to do that. I loved it! I also used to stay up late, when mom would let me, and wait for the TV to go off air. It happened at 1:am. There were two things that always took place that I never tired of seeing. I cant remember the channel, but one would show a picture of Abraham Lincoln and read these words; Blessed is the Nation whose God is the Lord. It was one of Abraham Lincolns favorite scriptures. On another channel, would be the poem, High Flight. Written by John Magee, a Royal Canadian Air Force Pilot who was killed at age 19 while flying his Spitfire. In the poem, High Flight, he talks about how when flying, he could break the bonds of earth, fly into the heavens, and reach out and touch the face of God. Enjoy this clip of Red Skelton. God bless America and God Bless you.
