I accept that the following question is very involved and open ended... Im nearing the end of my bachelors degree in composition and Ive come to draw a complete blank on what concentration to look into for a masters degree. Why not recorder? The issue is, I have absolutely no prior experience on the recorder other than my self-taught ability to play the instrument. Ive never played in an ensemble, or been in a position to take lessons - no collaboration whatsoever. Yet, I feel I have accomplished a lot on my own, I dont have any trouble playing the major repertoire and the matter of preparing a suitable audition wouldnt be beyond my capabilities. Does an individual such as myself stand a chance at the graduate level? I only own Aulos instruments, so I would probably have to make an investment in at least a decent wooden alto before I could audition. Would it be worth the shot, or is the field actually very competitive at this level? If it matters, I live in the US and Ive played every other instrument under the sun, plenty of performing and collab. experience on piano, clarinet, viola, brasses and others. Im not sure where to go from where I am but early music performance does interest me greatly. Any advice would be welcome! =]
