I actually do believe that the Earth is 4.54 Billion years old and I also believe that the whole universe is 13.77 billion years old. The idea that the earth is only 6,000 years old came from a theologian sometime in the 17th century named James Ussher, an Irish Anglican Bishop in the year 1650. It was not a Biblical doctrine at all. It was an idea that he formulated by counting back the long ages of the patriarchs who all supposedly lived to be nearly 1,000 years at the time they died from Noah back to Adam. He concluded that the Earth was created in the year 4,004 BC. It was not based on Scripture, it was a hypothesis he came up with. Its pseudo-science not real evidence of the actual age of the Earth. the reptiles in the Noah story I was referring to were smaller predatory critters like snakes and lizards which were used to kill animals like rabbits,rodents, and insects to stop them from damaging crops and from spreading disease. There were no Dinosaurs, whatsoever aboard the Ark. The Ark story was a legend about a local flood in ancient Iraq.
