I actually heard a woman say this exact words when provoked by a fellow customer at a shop..... I could only imagine what she might have said to the man if she was not fasting... Lolz.... Many of us seem not to grasp yet what the Holy Catholic Church, our church, and our mother intends to guide us through in this season of lent. The first reading of today tends to give a clearer picture in my opinion, taken from Isaiah 58. Verse 4-5 reads: Look, you fast only to quarrel and to fight and to strike with a wicked fist. Such fasting as you do today will not make your voice heard on high. 5 Is such the fast that I choose, a day to humble oneself? Is it to bow down the head like a bulrush, and to lie in sackcloth and ashes? Will you call this a fast, a day acceptable to the Lord? While these are not evil in themselves, our faith, our belief in Christ necessitates that we go much more beyond these. And do verse 6-8 continues : 6 Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of injustice, to undo the thongs of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke? 7 Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover them, and not to hide yourself from your own kin? I feel like shouting glory, hallelujah, or even eureka because whenever we hear the truth, it is always so clear and distinct . Our fasting, our prayers, our almsgiving this season must put smiles on the faces of those around u, ur work place, the market, the class and so on. That is the fast that pleases our Lord. The reading goes on to declare graces on all of us who partake joyfully of this exercise. Vs 8 Then your light shall break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up quickly; your vindicator shall go before you, the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard. 9 Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer; you shall cry for help, and he will say, Here I am. If you remove the yoke from among you, the pointing of the finger, the speaking of evil, 10 if you offer your food to the hungry and satisfy the needs of the afflicted, then your light shall rise in the darkness and your gloom be like the noonday. 11 The Lord will guide you continually, and satisfy your needs in parched places, and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters never fail. Alleluia! there friend... I declare this blessings to be permanent in your life as u partake with the Church in this holy and joyful season of lent... Yes joyful because thanks to this season, many of us will be remembered with Jesus once again, will go more frequently to confession, will begin receiving the holy Eucharist more often and worthily too.... May the blessings of God Almighty be with you always.
