I agree that he is a welcome change. But I also think that it is interesting that we think a religious leader should or could be anything else. The church drifted so far from the real idea of Christ that we now think it is astounding for a Pope to be Christ-like. I have long lost my Catholic faith…but maybe if Popes were like this all along I would still be a member of the church, the way that many Jews I know participate in their religion without being really religious believers.
