I agree wholeheartedly with the sentiment of this post, but then I think we run into the difficulty that the term decent living is so wholly subjective, and can mean something different to every person. Culture, as always, has complicated perceptions of comfort and sufficiency. For example, Im quite sure that many in todays society would consider it an outrageous deprivation if they were asked to go without a mobile phone. Ultimately the issue of minimum wage boils down to questions of what is enough, and what does enough look like when manifested in the trappings of daily life. Im not sure theres any way to answer those questions without inciting extreme controversy.
