I agree with shock doctrine to a certain extent. In monopoly phase of capitalism , which the world has been in for about 140 years (see _Imperialism_by Lenin), one capitalist always kills many other capitalists ( Marx in the second to the last chapter of _Capital_). They are expropriators of other capitalists, not workers . (Workers were expropriated in the primitive accumulation phase. )Like in the game Monopoly. So, cutthroat monopoly competition and expropriation of other capitalists (like Romneys company specialized in; vulturism) is more doable in recession when lots of companies are failing . Therefore , I conclude the Republicans , the main agents of the biggest capitalists , are trying to cause recession, so their principles can gobble up more capital , not to mention harm the working masses so that they are too busy trying to survive to think about politics. The Republicans are not so stupid as to think their policies wont cause harm to the economy . That is their aim. I know Wolf doesnt say this exactly, but there is more than a kernel of this truth in her thesis. Shes fairly close to it.
