I agree with this author and this approach, and forced sharing has been a hard habit for me to break! I try to follow the dont make your kid share mentality. But it has been a challenge for me. When we go to the park for play group, if there is a toy Si doesnt want to share I ask him if he wants to leave it in the car, because there is a balance between raising my child the way I want to and still allowing him to see that different rules apply in different settings. Kids love consistency, but we do them a disservice when we treat them as though they arent capable of flexibility. But I do explain why the rules are different, or when another parent is bothered by something I take Si aside and talk to him about it this mom wants her kids to do this or not do this. Most often that conversation has to do with other parents NOT wanting Si to share with their kids (food/snacks).
