I almost ran out of time to get this done (we move out tomorrow early morning), but I cannot emphasize enough how big a part of Mellies daily routine this man has been since she was first with us and going on walks through our apartment complex. Blueberry Muffin lovers, meet Matt (aka Porch Pal), who Mellie absolutely adores beyond belief. We are in a very large complex, and there are many porches, but there is only one porch that houses Porch Pal Matt, and I am in absolutely no way exaggerating when I say this: Every single time that we have walked past his second floor apartment one complex to the east from ours, Mellie has looked up to see if he is there. No, I dont mean she did it so often we could see a pattern forming. I mean. Every. Single. Time. She walked by. The reason she did this is because ever since we started walking Mellie through our apartment complex, he would talk to her from his porch balcony on the second floor of the apartment building when she passed. She would stare up at him and smile, perk her ears, and wag her tail as fast as it could go. He said things like Hi Mellie! Youre such a good girl! Whatcha doin today? And she would woof and wag back at him. She would roll around on her back and wiggle through the grass in front of him. He and I have often exchanged hellos and talked about what has been going on during the time in which we have been here. Other people say oh that dog is so pretty or she is such a good dog etc. but Matt would just sit and carry on a little conversation with her every time she would pass by while he was out. She never stopped to see if the other people are there. She doesnt even really respond when they talk to me to compliment me on my dog. But Porch Pal? If she walked by and he WASNT sitting on the porch having a cigarette, she would put her ears back for just a moment before carrying on. I am sure that without this particular interaction on her walk, the activity was incomplete for Mellie. On the few times where Mellie has interacted with him on ground level, it is even more apparent how much she likes him - smooches galore! She will miss him. I will miss talking with him. He was, however, gracious enough to let me snap a few photos with her to share with you! Enjoy!
