I always applaud and support anyone, especially those in the public eye, who come out and say they are openly gay. We need that. BUT with the two country singers who came out yesterday I got to thinking. One is relatively unknown, so yes brave and hope it doesnt ruin a career in a genre thats less accepting. However, many of us who knew Ty Herndon knew he was gay over a decade ago, and I assumed hed come out then. He didnt. He had a successful career, got success and money. Maybe now its not as brave? I dunno. Maybe he needs a career boost or publicity due to declining sales? I hope thats not part of the reason. Im not totally sure on this one. Just seems a tad bit smarmy to me, and a little late. But I know we all have our timeline and needs and fears. So Ty does get the benefit of the doubt. Being open is liberating and helpful to others as well...whenever it happens.
