I always feel really strange when I go back to NY and see all the changes that have happened since Ive been gone. Landmarks demolished, famous (to my generation, anyway) clubs, bars that have been shuttered up to make room for another NYU- owned something or other. This is something that happens eventually over time. But those 2 monolithic towers-in all their ugly splendor, were always supposed to be there, just like the Empire State bldg will always be there. I look at the Freedom Tower when I go back and thats when I know my NY is gone- resigned to old photos and campfire stories. I miss those ugly towers. The city got an unintentional face lift that day, and I miss the old face very much.
