I always kind of overreach physically. My mind, as well as my spirit, still havent wrapped themselves around the fact that Im not 21 anymore. Anyway, lessons learned from a very eventful weekend when not on the high seas...but stuck in the village or the beach or both..hypothetically, of course...this would never happen to me..right?..to wit; - its fine to give in to your inner celebrity watcher self when on the Cape..its kind of half the fun. - its even better to introduce yourself and your admiration to a couple of retired Olympians from the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Summer Olympics, both of whom medaled in beach volleyball. - its wonderful to hang out for a couple hours on the wharf in a cafe with these two while being invited to share brunch, omelets and mimosas..talk about what the Olympics are really like..be empathic with their mild frustration that the swimmers and track people get all the attention ( they clearly havent seen the ratings for beach volleyball or are pooh-poohing them )...which I disagree with, but I didnt want to disagree with anything at this point...I was rolling with it, I guess. - its not so smart to join them and a few others from their sport circuit for a few beach volleyball matches..just for ha-has...even though you were just responsible for a one square foot of beach sand yards away from the net..and are probably just a warm body to make the teams even..youre still going to get drilled by the ball, knocked over and driven to exhaustion.. and nobody is really even all that aware that youre playing...or there..but you know what?...you can say that you were there and survived it... - even though your undergraduate teaching assistants are going to practically have to carry you by each arm, due to a multitude of sore and strained muscle groups, to the lectern and prop you up there in order to deliver your first psychology lecture of the semester on Thursday morning. Hypothetically speaking, of course. ;) And how was your weekend?
