I always knew and believed that there is a very discerning, listening audience in my city. Not a huge amount but a small section. Yet a very sophisticated lot. I would like to thank all those who came to my concert Anjan 20, to sit quietly and appreciate whatever we gave, because they knew and had the insight to see the effort and hard work put in. I do not recall any Bengali singer songwriter being celebrated through American folk, pop, film music...where a whole spectrum of singers from Bengali singer Rupankar, Somlata... to western music practitioner like Rahul Guha Roy and others are part of the show. Each day was very concept specific. And the audience did not confuse it at all. Sometimes I do get disturbed and angry at the prevalent celebration of the mediocre. When young aspiring songwriters write nothing that make me sit up yet continuously project themselves shamelessly on the facebook. When I see organically, structurally bad films get hyped out of context and applauded in the media. When basically amateur actors are projected as big time celebs...But then, audiences like you take away all that anger and I feel more inspired to better work than I have ever done before. Audience like you make me feel humble. Yes, there were some very small glitches in these last 4 days, like there has been many mistakes which I have made in the past. But I know that myself along with my co artists like Amit Dutta, Lew Hilt, Neel, Deboprotim Bakshi...have paid their dues and still paying it with each work. I am proud to say that I have till date never pampered politics or media but just depended on the audience. And when an audience like yo applaud us it makes this life so worth it. Its people like you who have given me the space to function in my own way. To be honest on the stage and not bother about the gallery. Its people like you who I would like to bow to.
