I always knew that I was an adopted child. My parents told me the story gradually, beginning when I was young. Finally, they told me about the day in the courtroom when the judge banged his gavel and announced that I was their child. I was lovingly adopted and joyfully incorporated into my family. I never had any reason to be concerned about my biological roots. Adoption was simply another way to be born into a family. In sixth grade, I was amazed to discover that Paul described becoming a Christian as being adopted into God’s family through Christ. If ever I had a conversion event in my faith, it was the sudden realization that I was adopted into God’s family, as truly as I was adopted into my earthly family. When my two sons were in junior high, they asked if I knew anything about my biological parents. They wanted more information about their cultural roots and their health history. I researched their questions and provided them what little information I could find. But in the end, they decided that their adoption into God’s family was most important. Barbara S.
