I always preferred to talk about the Affordable Care Act in terms - TopicsExpress

I always preferred to talk about the Affordable Care Act in terms of health insurance reform rather than healthcare reform because it amounted to a series of sweeping regulatory changes affecting the private health insurance industry. Without a public option, literally all of the plans available right now through and beyond the exchanges are provided by private health insurers. One of the most important outcomes of this reform will be that more Americans will wind up with health insurance, PROVIDED THEY SIGN UP. Monday marks the last day to openly enroll for coverage in 2013, so please: if you arent currently covered, do yourself, your family, and your friends a favor by taking this critical step in preventing possible medical bankruptcy. And if you are concerned that someone you know might not be covered, please offer what encouragement you can. There are a number of valuable resources available now, and the Get Covered Tennessee collaborative is one of the best places to start. Insurance is risk mitigation. Health insurance reduces the risk that the unknowns about our genetic health, the possibilities of accidents or aging to affect our health, and anything else that is an unknown unknown with regard to our health could lead us to become suddenly financially unhealthy. Get covered. Stay covered.
