I always root for the underdog no matter their stripe or color, so you can imagine my joy when I came across a documentary that talked about how some Native Americans are trying to revive their language and culture - in other words, restore their glory. So I went to their colleges website to see how they are going about this. Take a look at the course outline of their Bachelor of Science Degree in K-8 Elementary Education. I noticed students have to take Lakota language, history, and culture along with their other classes no matter their major. If you dont want your language and culture to go extinct, thats how to go about it. Now I wish all schools in Nigeria will do the same. I heard that some children in Nigeria cant speak their native language even though they were born and raised in Nigeria. The colonialists have long left the shores of Nigeria, its okay to speak your own language now - in public as well as in private.
