I always said that urban sprawl causes more problems than is solves. Years ago when I was married and we were looking for a new home I remember remarking about the lack of green spaces in all those new shiny cookie cutter subdivisions. We came so close to living in one of those places but fate intervened and we ended up staying closer to home. I told myself if I ever got the chance to serve the public interest Id work on laws to mandate for every block of home there should be a park or a space set aside to play kickball, to play baseball - the outdoor space was supposed to be that space ones kids went when their parent said - GO OUTSIDE and PLAY. I never got overweight until I grew older - when I was a kid we rarely if ever saw over weight kids, we walked everywhere - we rode our bikes - we had space to do all those things.... Anyway - we need more open spaces - we need more places families can go outside to interact. One of my best memories is watching John Weber try to ride his bike down the big slide at the park over off of Palmer street in Madison Heights my sides hurt from laughing - we never got memories like that playing Donkey Kong and todays kids arent going to get them on their PS3s.
