I am 36 years old, (not now, but a decade back). No need to swipe open the calculator on your Android phone to figure out where I stand today. Anyway this is not about how old I am today but about the kick on my butt that I received, and there were many. AND THIS ONE WAS VERY SPECIAL. The year was 1979. I remember neither the date, nor the day. But it sure was a weekday though. I got back from school and my seemingly docile Mom was waiting for me right at the entrance. Even before I entered my house, she revealed the Mary Kom side of her personality. Punches & Pinches were galore in the short distance between the threshold of my house and her domain – The kitchen. I suspect it was more of her private gym. And all this even before she told me the – WHY! After telling me the WHY, came the light weaponry – Caning on my palms followed by the heavy weaponry – Belting on my butt. I know hearing this gladdens the hearts of a few of you guys and a girl and it doesn’t matter. If you are wondering who the girl is – it is none other than my loving wife! Now the WHY part: I stole a Rupee from my Dad’s pocket. For my Dad it was just a Rupee. For me it was not a King’s ransom either but just a Rupee. But my Mom ensured that till my departure from this earth I won’t bother about laying my hands on money that I haven’t earned. I wish Mrs. Sandhya Jayaram had been like my mother. Her daughter wouldn’t be languishing in jail today. PS: Did I deserve sympathy then? The answer is NO. If a 13 year old who stole only a Rupee from his own Dad doesn’t deserve it, do you think somebody who stole Crores from the public deserve sympathy? I leave that to you to answer.
