I am A 70 Year Old Youth – Museveni President Yoweri Museveni has declined publicizing his plans for 2016 General Elections, saying that such was indiscipline he wouldn’t wish to be involved in. President Museveni steered clear of all calls for him to declare if he intended to contest for the fifth time in the approaching 2016 general elections. He was appearing on the Capital Gang, a popular weekend radio talk show, for the second time in a couple of weeks. The president informed listeners that his focus was on finishing first the responsibilities entrusted to him by Ugandans, who upon appreciating his works, would choose on whether or not to bring him back. “The problem with Ugandan (leaders) is that instead if doing the assignment they have been asked to, they are busy planning, dreaming, scheming; that’s a good idea. I will not be part of that indiscipline. Ugandans have a lot of problems they are dealing with, I cannot go disturbing them, Oh, I want to be this, I want to be this. I have an assignment. You should let me finish it first.” He nonetheless dismissed concerns that age was catching up with him at the helm of the NRM party and the county, before describing himself as a “70 year old youth.” “You should remember that I was a leader of FRONASA at the age of 26 in 1971. Before that I was an active student leader in the 1960s, and at only 21, I was activity stopping my Banyankole people from nomadism. Therefore when you are talking to me, you are talking to a 70 year old youth.” He added, “You people confuse biology with ideology. Biology isn’t the solution to society’s problems. You might be young but ideologically old and confused.” Mr Museveni went on that while he admired South Africa’s revolutionary Nelson Mandela who retired after serving one term as president, he (Museveni) was still much younger than Mandela who was approaching 80 years when he emerged from prison. Accosted with a barrage or questions from Gangsters and listeners on his choice of the new NRM Secretariat where government Chief Whip Hon Kasule Lumumba, replaced Amama Mbabazi as its head, Museveni described the new team as the most perfect. The Secretariat he said, was now a perfect blend of grandfathers like himself, parents and grandchild. The party according Spokesperson Ofwono Opondo, is set to hold its NEC meeting on Friday next week to approve the new secretariat. Museveni noted that the appointees would “ultimately” have to resign their cabinet jobs as per the December 15, party constitutional amendments
