I am Alyssas Mommy. I watch Alyssa have seizures everyday. She suffers from several kinds of seizures. Some are misfires in her brain that go unnoticed when you are looking at her. According to EEG testing she is having about 600 of these per day. Though you dont see them when you are looking at her, they effect how she thinks, her impulse control, her behaviors, her ability to recall past learned information, how to process information that she was just told. A lot of the time you will tell her a 4-5 word sentence and she will say what? because her brain was not fully functioning when you were talking, she has no idea what you just said. She also has focal seizures on a daily basis, complex partials on a daily basis, complex partial with secondary generalized (grand mal)several times weekly. There is a medication that is showing great promise. Actually according to parents reports 100% of the children taking it have seen a reduction or complete elimination of the seizures their child has suffered with. There are no FDA studies on this medication because the Federal Government has it listed as a drug that is highly addictive and has no medicinal value even though for decades now there is plenty of proof it has medicinal value. As far is being addictive, thats up for debate as about 9% of users do become addictive. Id like to to remember that there are more people addicted to Pharmaceutical pills that are approved by the FDA than there are people who become addicted to this drug. What I want to give my daughter, who is six years old is something I myself was against before the seizures started. I want to give my kindergartener marijuana. There I said that oh so terrible word that everyone things if horrific. Thats because we as a society, get a mental picture when we hear that word. We visualize a six year old smoking a joint, laughing hysterically, walking crooked and so on. That is where the misconception starts and everyone throws up a wall. The marijuana I seek for my child is far far less dangerous than the Prescription meds the Doctors have her on now. It is a marijuana plant that is extremely low in THC, the average weed confiscated off the street or found in a medical marijuana pharmacy is a level of THC (THE PART THAT GETS YOU STONED) between 18-29% THC and 0.67-1.3% CBD (THE PART THAT IS FOR HEALING). The plant I want is totally different, it is actually 0.78-1.2 % THC and 17-25%CBD. Those low levels of THC will not get her high! But because those levels are above 0.0% it is still considered marijuana and is currently illegal. What I seek is also not smoked. There will be no kid smoking on a joint, It comes in a liquid form that they have made at the medical marijuana facility, by extracting the CBD and MINIMAL THC contents from the buds. Illinois passed medical marijuana! yay. but they are only allowing it for certain ailments. Epilepsy is not on that list of ailments that qualify a person for getting medical marijuana. BOO! We are asking for epilepsy to be included. Also when Illinois passed medical marijuana, they restricted it to persons over the age of 18. BOO. Again, I think they were only imagining toddlers smoking it and getting high. But failed to realize that there are other ways medical marijuana can save children and give them a better quality of life. They claim there are no studies to show if it is harmful to children. That problem is a result of Government themselves restricting marijuana clinical tests. Its not my fault, your fault or alyssas fault that they refuse to do clinical tests. To that complaint I answer with, there has never been a report of someone dying directly because of using marijuana! There has never been a report of anyone overdosing on marijuana! But I can tell you the FDA approved medications they have had my 6 year old on over the last year has some very serious side effects. Some of which had her put in the intensive care unit last year. On her current medications they say do not drive, may cause irreversible liver failure requiring a liver transplant, may cause blindness and so on. These medications were approved to give a 6 yr old. And are not working! I think it is only fair to remove the age restriction and allow my daughter a chance at a medication that has no known harmful side effects but that is showing such a great success ratio of helping pediatrics with epilepsy. Help me in my fight to make Illinois a state that no longer denies children access to needed medical treatments that can save the life of a child. Please sign the petition above the D.J. posted. And go to my page for more informative information on what Im fighting for. AND PLEASE SIGN THE VARIOUS PETITIONS ON MY PAGE AS WELL. We are talking about a six year old little girl. She loves baby dolls, horses, dogs and cats and every other animal that exists. She loves coloring, Toy story, The little Mermaid. She loves her family. Lets fight for a little one that cant fight for herself.
