I am God, and there is no one like Me, declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things which have not been done, saying, ‘My purpose will be established, and I will accomplish all My good pleasure’ Isaiah 46:9-10 There is not an errant molecule in the universe. There is not a planet spinning out of control. All the hand-wringing about man destroying the earth is just hubris. Man is not that powerful. We take care of the earth because God made us responsible for it. “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth (Genesis 1:26). But man cannot destroy the earth. God says, “While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease (Genesis 8:22). And God already told us how He will destroy the earth. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up (2 Peter 3:10). There is not an errant cell in our bodies. Our bodies may be racked with the effects of our fallen world but there is not an ebola virus or cancer virus or a clogged artery that is beyond the control of God. That is why even as we go see the doctor or take our medication or exercise to keep in shape we look with hope and confidence to Jesus Christ who paid the penalty for our sins and will give us new bodies. We ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies (Romans 8:23). Bodies that can live in the Presence of God forever. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes.There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away” (Revelation 21:4). This is His good pleasure. All the things on this earth, all the things in the universe point to the consummation of the loving and gracious plan of God of redeeming man. Cheer up, believers! Our loving God who is totally and absolutely in control of everything loves you and cares for you. Whatever you are going through know that your Father delights in you. The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing (Zephaniah 3:17).
