I am Linda Sutphin, founder of Dogs 2nd Chance. We have saved over 875 lives in less than 7 years. We help any dog we can as space allows. We do not discriminate breeds or health issues. We are known for taking dogs no one else will. And for having astronomical vet bills, and searching for the perfect home for our dogs, not just homes. I have something weighing on my mind that needs to be said. I am not pointing fingers, but this is the way I feel. if you disagree stop reading or delete. I am being very honest and frank. feel free to stop reading here There are hundreds of good rescue groups in the Mid South area. There are hundreds of people out there sharing and trying to help dogs via modern technology, social media and much begging. Every rescue group I know is overcrowded and in debt to their eyeballs. WE can not help any more without DEDICATED fosters. This means keeping the dog/cat until adopted even if it means years. DEDICATED is the key. Many of you do not understand that money can not always solve the problem, although God knows it helps. Pull fees may be covered and even heartworm treatments, but what about the on going expenses like preventatives & good quality food? The bi annual heartworm tests? The yearly exams. Many dogs are out there do not easily get adopted from us or any other rescue. We keep them for years or forever. We never give up on them. A foster commitment. many times turns into someone that thinks they want to help but does not realize fostering a street dog is WORK. Hours of stress, love, training, breaking up fights, dealing with food aggression etc. Many fosters flake out and we, the rescue groups scramble to find a place for the baby the foster just dumped. If I personally tell you no, believe me there is a damned good reason. Last night and today were a perfect example. I was literally hounded to pull a dog that had everything including a foster covered. This was a beautiful healthy dog that any of the people begging could have just signed adoption papers and re homed on their own. Great potential dog to adopt BUT I had a gut feeling and God knows I hate to turn a dog down. Within 15 minutes, I knew why I said no. Our baby Laddy lost his foster home because after 2 weeks and taking to another Vet ,we found out he was most likely contagious, although we were told he was not originally. We began scrambling and still are trying to move fosters so he can come here to my house. Then we find out Buster, just saved, who has a DEDICATED foster and her backing has more orthopedic issues can you can ever imagine. See the pictures of these 2 babies and understand WHY, they are our priority. There are plenty people wanting to help the healthy, easy to adopt babies. We are here to help the castaways nobody wants. Realize that YOU can adopt a dog and then rehome. All dogs do not take a rescue to pull them to be saved. Saving the stray & abandoned is MY Life. I try to stay low key and mind my own business . Do not chastise me or other rescues for not helping. If we say no, there is a reason, do not continue to make us feel guilty by sending pictures or videos. WE HATE to turn a dog down Dont tell me you cant foster because you have 2 dogs. Get freaking real and learn to juggle 15 We offer FREE training to help you. OR at least, if you cant foster, join us in the dirt and mud trying to save a few. Dont agree to support us and then dont have the $10 you pledged? stay away from Starbucks. That $10 buys a rabies vaccine If all you can do for whatever reason is post. RECRUIT DEDICATED FOSTERS. If you make the statement somebody go save this dog GET OFF and YOUR computer go save the dog and then figure it out. That is what we do. We are not miracle workers but with Gods help we work miracles. We find enough dogs on our own that need our help, we really do not need help finding them, we NEED HELP, HELPING the HELPLESS. If I have not pissed you off yet, you understand If I did, maybe you will stop and think If not, at least you will leave me alone and let me do what I do best. Save the Stray and Abandoned One Dog at a Time, by Caring for Castaways.
