I am Okay with Modi, if the mainstream media played its role of an objective watchdog, especially since there is hardly any political opposition. Instead, after all the disproportionate, motivated, propagandistic attacks on the UPA regime, the media has simply caved in, from Day One... the worst possibly after its subservient role during Emergency in 1975-77. Personally, I have given up on the mainstream media. I dont think journalists - from reporters to opinion-writers to editors - have it in them to take on the establishment professionally, in a meaningful way, with some maturity. Owners &/ editors, am told, are shitting in their pants. Ha haa, at least now please stop preaching... (I still respect some like SG, TNN, MS, SJ, VM, etc) I also have a problem with progressive politics and activism, as well, much to the discomfort to many of my friends. The more they deny Modis claim to power through elections and the more they deny hindutva/hindusims claim to pride, (however misplaced) the more Modi/Hindutva will gain support among people, especially the middle/upper-middle classes, who find it unreasonable. (Bhagawat on Doordarshan) My understanding of democratic politics is that all ideas should get a full play in the society and only the clash of ideas will lead to progress. Thats not going to happen anytime soon. We are not yet a matured democracy... PS: I believe in progressive politics and I also have huge faith in peoples wisdom... they are watching and they will either support or reject what they like or dont like... So, I keep calm, for the moment!! The classic example: when mainstream media fails, the alternative media rises to the occasion... Enjoy this... Mr. Modi is India’s first Indian-American Prime Minister. It would be equally appropriate—and absurd—to describe him as India’s first Karan Johar Prime Minister!
