I am SOO happy to report that Harlow had a good night all things considered...since we first got down here to the PICU we have gone from a very busy room with so many people rushing in and out to finally calming down a bit (again, all things considered). Her medical team was having difficulty getting her stabilized on the dialysis machine and had to remove her from it two times in the first 24 hours which is never a good thing...they have been working hard to get it regulated, as well as her ventilator. As of yesterday evening that seems to have happened as she is tolerating both well so far. They have made some, albeit a small amount but some none the less, progress on removing the more than 3 pounds of extra fluid that is trapped in her little body...I liken the last 36-48 hours to watching your child being blown up like a balloon, and with any balloon the more you fill it up the more pressure you create... This morning is the first time we can see a very small visual difference in her swelling! As I like to say, she has gotten a tiny bit of her squish back... She is still in critical condition but is stable at the moment. Today the goal is to continue making progress with getting off the extra fluid, this will be a slow process but every little bit will continue to help her organs start to function better and work towards getting her off of dialysis and off the ventilator... Although we know we have yet another long road on this detour we are hopeful that Harlow will continue to fight hard as we know her to do and we will once again be back upstairs continuing on her transplant journey. Her medical team is estimating that we will be down here in the PICU for at least 2-3 weeks but we hope she surprises us all and that time is shorter... Somer, Shane & Harlow Grace 󾬖
