I am a White Southerner by birth, and had ancestors who fought for - TopicsExpress

I am a White Southerner by birth, and had ancestors who fought for the Confederacy. At that time, one felt the greatest loyalty to the state they were from, and not for our country. I know that the Confederate flag is a symbol of regional pride for many White Southerners, and I can respect that. But now our main loyalty is to the United States, not Georgia or North Carolina, or Virginia. We honor our ancestors, but not the cause they fought for. The Confederate flag has been taken over as a symbol of White Supremacy for groups such as the Klan. To our African American brothers and sisters it is a symbol of racism and fear. We Southerners need to let go of this symbol, and honor our fellow African-American citizens who view it as an insult to them.
