I am a believer, an idealist if you will, in the powerful idea - TopicsExpress

I am a believer, an idealist if you will, in the powerful idea that suggests that all that man can be man must be. I am convict of hope, a conformist to the ideology of success against all odds and a contender against circumstantial dictation. Neither my poetry of imagination nor the brilliance of metaphor can satisfyingly grasp the essence of who I say I am. Therefore I refuse to accept that the pressing powers of poverty that led my black brothers to prison shall lead my way there too. I refuse swim in the pool of ignorance just because the ills of youth summon that I do. I refuse to accept that the madness of circumstances in which I was born shall determine the destiny that awaits me. I reject the destructive notion that books make black men crazy hence I chose to learn. I refuse to accept that the hunger of fear that dares to eat my dreams will cease my appetite for success. I refuse to accept that the absence of role models before my eyes means surrendering myself over to the street-corner drug lords. I refuse to bow down and accept that my painful past is the legacy of my life and definition of my future. Because I truly believe that what lays behind and ahead of me can never be equal to that which lays within me! I reject the unfounded ideas that seek to reduce the value of my worth to the clothes on my back and shoes on my feet. I draw the line and refuse to spend the rest of my life living below the breadline. I dare to challenge the self-defeating suggestion that “some things are just not meant for people like you”. Whether tomorrow I will be caught in the eye of a storm or basking in the pleasure of sunshine, I will still believe. I will still believe because the greatest weakness of us all is not losing, falling or failing but not believing. Dare to believe. #TomorrowAwaits
