I am a big football fan. The recent video of Ray Rice shown - TopicsExpress

I am a big football fan. The recent video of Ray Rice shown knocking his fiancee out caused him an indefinite suspension from football. Pete Carroll and Jim Harbaugh say they don’t abide domestic abuse, yet a 6 players from those two teams have been accused of domestic violence. In the past 8 years, there were 56 arrests for domestic violence by NFL players. The offending players were suspended a total of 13 games by Roger Goodell. From what I can see, the NFL does the same thing as any other business in the USA does. If one of your big players (whether in business or in sports) commits a crime, and if they dont get arrested and prosecuted, or if they get arrested and prosecuted - but there is not a big public outcry about the crime, the business treats it as if it didnt happen. The NFL has been turning a blind eye to player crimes (domestic violence being one of those crimes) for a long time, and only acts when they cant do anything else to calm the public down about an incident. Pro football is not alone in sweeping under the rug the fact that its players have been accused of domestic violence and other crimes. You can find them every sport and every business. Actually, although once is too much, pro football players (surprisingly) commit less domestic violence than the general public does per capita. So, if the NFL wants to have a zero tolerance rule for domestic violence, what do you want to bet that as soon as the current firestorm dies down, nothing much will be done. Will they also suspend the other NFL players who have been arrested for domestic violence? I dont think so.
