I am a bit sad at the fate of Nitish Kumar. And indeed of Bihar and Biharis. I am not a Nitish fan and have my own set of problems with him. However, by all accounts, roads and electricity improved in his regime. A sense of turnaround with a degree of hope was palpable. And off course, he also managed media to his advantage with the help of some pet Delhi ex bureaucrats (who deserted him post haste like the rats on the sinking ship). Bihar didnt seems to have voted for development record. It seems to have voted for development promise on the other hand. Alongwith the very public victory for the Gujarati sub nationalism, it was also a sad defeat for Bihari sub nationalism. The people who won are the allies of SS and MNS who are against Bihari migrants. So here is an unwise Nitish, as opposed to the wise Ramvilas Paswan, who could have played second fiddle; gone against his conscience (late awakening, I must admit) and been a part of the victorious mobs right now. In his defeat, he looks like a tragic figure. I am always for the Devdases of the world rather than the arriviste.:-)) And I am also rather sad for Bihar.
