I am a descendant of the Crockett family of France. Antoine Desaure Peerronette De Crocketagne (1643-1735) was a person of the kings court. He and his family became involved in a religious group, the Huguenots, and found that they were more atune wit the traching of the group than the Roman Catholic church. When the word reached the king, Antoine was warned the king to back away from this unorthodox teachings or risk punish of him and his family by death. They fled to Ireland and changed their name to Crockett, so others would not know that they were French. Antoine died in Ireland but his children were able to make it to the new world where they sought freedom of religious choice.
