I am a farmers daughter. I grew up on a farm. But, now, I regret moving into a city!!!!! Id rather live in the good ol country!!!!! In the summer, my brother, Ivan and I would head out into the fields. It was fun and we worked until lunch time, mom brought out a lunch for us, such as gallon jar of kool - aid, sandwiches, homemade cookies and frosted cake, rice crispy bars, and we would sit on the shade side of the tractor wheel and eat our\ lunch. My mom would turn on the car radio for us. Then, she would drive back to the house when we finished our lunch. My brother and I would pick rocks of all sizes in the just plowed field and we would haul them on a stone boat to a rock pile. My brother and I would haul hay bails, I would drive the tractor and he would pick them up and load them onto the 2 wheel trailer and then, when the trailer was full, we would go home, to the barn and lifted them up into the barn with a bail load of about 5 to 10 or more at a time up to the top of the door of the barn, 50 or 60 feet high up, then the equipment a the top pulled them inside the barn and they would drop on the top level floor of the barn. We loaded up the barn with hay. We all took turns feeding the cattle our hay, milking them by hand and with milking machine. We use to sell our milk when the milk truck came to them. Everytime after I would do my share of milking the cows, I would poor some for the mouser cats we had. They loved it. Our half bred German Shepherd/Collie, female dog, Lassie, would round up the cows at milking time, the cows were trained to come into the barn and they were trained to go into their own stalls everytime. We had two dogs. The other one was a Black Lab and his name was Fighto. We had many gardens on our farm. We would plant alot of potatoes, peas, green beans, carrots, celery, corn, tomatoes, rutabaga, rhubarb, turnips, strawberries, and more, and that is only the food stuff. My mom would plant many flowers, such as tulips, peturnias, tiger lilies, day lilies, marigolds, peonies, zinnias, violets, daisies, and unusual flowers I cant remember the names of right now. I use to walk mowing the lawn for four hours every week and I would fill it up at the huge barrel gas tank for the farm. My brother built a tree house and he and his friend, Mark, would use it for all kinds of boy stuff. Sometimes, my Aunt and Uncle would come over and their daughter, my cousin, Rita, would come over to visit in the evenings and Rita and I would have loads of fun laughing and playing. One time my dad and her dad, my uncle, Jim, went out into the field to see them burning off the old grass in one of the pastures and that fire was so huge, but, was very well taken care of and they watched it very carefully. Yes, I had fun on the farms. My dad made a home made swing from a big old oak tree. I would swing on that tall big old oak tree and I said, to my self, I want to be a trapeze artist when I grow up as I was practicing all kinds of trapeze artist stunts on it, it was so much fun. I could tell you alot more, but, I have things to do now, maybe more later.
