I am a little late in recording the huge success of the Luna Park Championships coupled with Freedom to Dance organised by Grant & Mary Barratt Thompson on Saturday 23rd August. Luna Park situated by the iconic Sydney bridge is a wonderful venue that gave the competitors an ample floor area and the enthusiastic near capacity audience great viewing. Encouraging for the organisers was the large increase in entries from last year, which goes to prove that give competitors a good venue with a great floor, melodic music plus experienced adjudicators and $30.000 in prize monies and they will travel from all states as well as some overseas visitors. In addition to th e prize money was the generous grant donated by Grant For two couples to attend the WDC AL in Paris France in December. The standard of dancing especially in the premier amateur and professional events was very high and gave the hard working adjudicators quite a few headaches. On a personal note I was delighted with the support that the Australian couples have for Freedom to Dance. Their attitude and support will undoubtedly lead to a promising competitive future both at home and overseas. My thanks to Mary, Grant and Rosemary for their kind hospitality. I look forward to attending next year.
