I am a little surprised by how much publicity this is getting. Sam Harris does some pretty enlightening work, and he is a credible person. This is a good example of why I think it is important to learn about logical fallacies, social constructs, mannerisms and different perspectives in discussions. Affleck displayed pretty closed off body language for the majority of the segment and always made snide remarks to suggest Harris was talking to much, made unrelated misleading references to Harris comments in an attempt to have the audience view the information a different way; this is pretty obvious example of a bias - unwilling to hear the other side because you feel you have the more supporting position. If you watch the video in its entirety, it is pretty clear that people are getting emotionally charged and not collaborating. Typically during the segment that Harris joined, the new guest would receive about 7 minutes to make his position and be brought up to speed, Afflect denied Harris this by objecting a short 90 seconds into his thesis, Harris didnt even get to make any comments about Islam, or ISIS for that matter before Affleck became charged. Affleck did however make a good point at the end of the segment, suggesting you would criticize the people doing the behavior rather than the entire ethnicity. This is a good point, however it is pretty obvious logic and was already in alignment with Harris and Mahers position, just more evidence to suggest a gross miscommunication. Perspective is an interesting thing, these sorts of encounters never fail to amuse me.
