I am a native Californian...born in Long Beach, raised in Santa Fe - TopicsExpress

I am a native Californian...born in Long Beach, raised in Santa Fe Springs, residing in Home Gardens, California since 1975. I have felt shame for my state on very few occasions...the Watts riots in the 60s, Bobbys murder, Ronald Reagans elections as governor, the oppression of Califas farmworkers, the Rodney King beating. However, yesterdays display of humanity in Murrieta can only be labelled as the blind leading the misled. Certainly everyone is entitled to his/her opinion about our current immigration laws, how they are applied, border control, and to whom they are applied and to whom they are not applied. But, my fellow citizens in Murrieta seemed to have forgotten that the migrants who were on the 3 buses, had ALREADY been detained by border patrol and were on their way to processing under the law. Emotions can often stifle a reasoned understanding of circumstances, but that is no excuse for the shameful display of barbarism in Murrieta yesterday. In my opinion, this is no different than a local church in my area that allowed La Migra to use their property as a staging area to perform a wholesale roundup of any with dark skin in my neighborhood. And for certain, many of those rounded up in my hood were here legally...but were not given the chance to prove it till they were in a country quite foreign to them...Mexico. I applaud a rational conversation and debate about our policies regarding those wanting to come here. But I will not and cannot applaud the denigration of our national pride when residents (whose own forefathers/mothers were migrants to Califas) get so caught up in emotion that reason loses its sway. We are better than this!!! Please!
