I am a new member and look forward to sharing, learning and growing in 2015. We have two mini horses (therapy and driving carts), a big lovely Tennessee Walker, and a guardian donkey (of my heart and our minis). We also have five soft-coated wheaten terriers (Blessing Wheatens that I show, a rescued fur ball of an American Eskimo and a little twirling machine Sheltie. We began the new year with a bit of a tragedy. Two bucks were fighting in our back pasture. One beautiful boy didnt make it and died just feet from our deck; he struggled & fled to that place to collapse with the other buck standing over him. My husband thought his neck was broken, but the Ranger we called showed us the puncture wounds. I always marvel at the beauty of our mountain (in Colorado) and spend little time considering or experiencing the reality of the wild. With permission and encouragement of the Ranger, Bill field dressed the buck (who we called warrior) so his death would not be in vain. It was minus two degrees and Bill did this on his own. When he came in to warm up he had tears in his eyes. It took hours. We plan to use some and donate the rest of the venison. All of our animals, dogs and horses knew something had happened and were alert for awhile, but soon settled into their routines. Life goes on...thankful for today, although it was hard, it was also somehow made good. RIP, warrior...
