I am a nut when it comes to researching good/bad habits that effect my thyroid, as I dont need to feel worse than I do on my worst days! I hate the lethargy, dry skin, no energy, mood swings, poor memory, I cant concentrate, water retention, super weird body temperature changes, annoying food cravings and weight gain, etc etc etc... So if I can do anything to alleviate those symptoms, I am all for it! I have always been a high stressed person.. I carry the weight of the world on my shoulders and I take on others problems... I am also super hard on myself! This causes cortisol levels to rise... my anxiety to rise and my poor family sees the mood swings I can get in. High cortisol levels can make you hold onto fat and gain weight -- even when youre killing yourself in the gym working out! I dont know about you but I dont want high cortisol levels... SO I have started doing some things that completely help me relax, decompress and leave the world and its problems outside my door.. #1. Epsom Salt Baths -- OMG I love Dr. Teals back soaks and salts.. I literally decompress in a bath every single day.. Sometimes I listen to soft music, sometimes in silence... either way I relax! #2. Massages ad Dry Brushing -- I didnt know dry brushing was effective for thyroid function, but it definitely is! It helps with the dry skin, your lymph nodes so you can get rid of toxins and your hormone producing glands! #3. Therapy -- people can judge and think I am crazy, but therapy is just as good as a great workout... I feel good, relieved and balanced! #4. SLEEP -- I know when I have under slept, overslept and slept just the right amount! I have to sleep 8-9 hours to function at my absolute BEST! Its a necessity. Rest, relax, decompress and take the weight of the world off my shoulders have helped in SO MANY WAYS with my moods and how my body reacts!
