I am a person given to moderation and diplomatic ways of resolving issues. However, when such events as the heinous acts of violence that were visited on persons mandated to protect lives in Kapedo occur, they invite the greatest condemnation and cannot be wished away on the table of explanations. Culprits must be brought to book. Sustained efforts must go beyond a mere return of guns of the slain soldiers and hunt down the master minders, planners and executors of such barbaric acts of violence that have been left unpunished in the name of addressing historical and peculiar regional resource challenges. No. These events do go the heart of challenging legitimacy of leadership in these regions and that of the police under Inspector General. The leadership on the ground should have known that conflict on the ground will drive away investments, lead to senseless loss of lives, draw national vitriol and disdain, slow down progress and bring collective leadership of those regions to great disrepute and invite ruthless intervention of our last resort- the army. When the army moves in, it is ruthless in its force and thorough in its sweep, pulverizing any modicum of resistance and leaving behind an enduring pain and agony that has the Human Rights groups go up in arms. As for Inspector General, we join you in mourning the death of our soldiers in the line of duty. However, while we do support you and pray for you, our patience is running out and our confidence in your performance severely tested. We want to see the twin roles of coordination and leadership brought under the realm of swift, prompt and decisive pre-emptive actions and interventions.
