I am absolutely fascinated by this article. I had never heard a Darcys song before yesterday, and upon investigation, dont plan to spend much time trying to listen to any more of it (THIS is art rock?), but...I just cant get over the tone deafness of this all. We are proud of the critical reception Warring has received, but the fact that it didnt sell 10,000 copies in Canada strongly questions its worth. Our writing process, in turn, has shifted some of its focus to take a look at each song and its potential for sales. This is the harsh reality to being a musician in 2014. They made changes, and though they may have explored the boundaries of the genre and bridged the gap between their old and new sound, they still created a very recognizable product... ...note to self: when Napalmpoms follow-up album fails to reach the soaring commercial heights achieved by our debut, make sure to claim its because it was too art rock. Note to self #2: make damn sure that our version of art rock sounds nothing like The Darcys.
