I am absolutely sickened by the complete disregard for civility, humanity and law and order we are seeing in St. Louis. The most compelling quote I heard this week came from Police Chief Dotson who believes criminals have been emboldened by the Ferguson unrest. Despite the fact that most police are bending over backwards to remain color blind and accommodating at the same time they are facing more personal dangers and in some cases total disrespect and contempt of their authority. Where are the leaders, black and white, political and faith based who should be shouting at the top of their lungs demanding an end to violence, criminal behavior and loss of respect. Where are the leaders who should be calling out criminals for what they are: Thugs and gangstas, wannabes or actual who need to be told that if they live out their lives in that way then they should expect the consequences that comes with it. Where are the leaders who should call out those who remain silent as accessories to the crimes against humanity that are happening in their own neighborhoods. Where are the leaders who have overcome the obstacles of race and implore others to also rise above and smash the stereotypes. Missouri has the highest rate of black murders in the nation and yet I see no leaders staging mass protests demanding change and action. Yes we need to make governments more responsive, reign in municipal courts who use their poorest citizens as cash cows. We need to support the good cops with the training, tools and manpower they need. We need to invest more in educational opportunities for those seeking to improve themselves and more early childhood development. We need a clearly defined national policy that lays out when police are allowed to use whatever force necessary to keep the peace, and every citizen and officer then taught to know that policy word for word so there is no question when it needs to be used or not used. Will the real leaders please step forward? .
