I am absolutely sickened by the story I heard this morning. Out in California (of course) theyve had such lousy turnout for state elections, theyve come up with a new plan to improve voter turnout. Theyre proposing to offer the chance to win money, possibly thousands or tens of thousand of dollars, just for showing up to vote! Oh great, lets encourage people that already dont give enough of a rats ass about who is elected to get off their lazy asses to vote just for the chance win the lottery. That should REALLY improve the quality of their elected officials. I cant believe how far weve fallen that this would even be suggested, let alone implemented. On their worst day, trying to come up with a possible worst case scenario when planning our country, our founding fathers couldnt have envisioned this one.
