I am accepting my nomination for the ice bucket challenge from Bailey Wilcox. However, I wanted to do something a little bit different and do my ice bucket challenge to raise awareness for a cause that is very close to my heart, Alzheimers Disease. Therefore, in honor of the Alzheimers Association (alz.org), my mom and I poured purple ice water on ourselves. Because I was challenged to do the challenge for ALS I will be donating to ALS as well as the Alzheimers Association. I pre-nominated Debra Barbato Pierson to do this with me and Im inviting Matthew Winkelman and Kyle Gerber to do the ice bucket challenge to spotlight the cause of their choice. Alzheimers Disease is a form of dementia that inhibits the connection between nerve cells in the brain causing memory loss, inhibiting critical thinking and problem solving, and eventually impacting behavior and ability to perform daily tasks. Alzheimers Disease is most common in individuals over the age of 65, but my family has a gene for early-onset Alzheimers which can materialize as early as age 40. The Alzheimers Association funds research to search for a cure and also provides resources to those fighting the Alzheimers as well as their family and caregivers.
