I am afraid. Thursday, while I was at Texas Oncology at Baylor, - TopicsExpress

I am afraid. Thursday, while I was at Texas Oncology at Baylor, a sweet 74 year old lady was next to me enduring her 20+ round of chemotherapy. This woman was beautiful…she is a mother and grandmother, she still has all of her hair, she was tiny...weighing in at 94 pounds and she was amazingly inquisitive. (My friend.) What are you here for? (Me.) Colon cancer. (My friend.) Colon cancer…me too. What stage? (Me) Stage IV (My friend.) Stage IV…me too. (My friend.) Who is your doctor? (Me.) Dr. McCollum. (My friend.) Dr. McCollum…me too. (My friend.) I am afraid…are you? This is where our similarities stopped. (Me.) No…I actually have never been afraid of cancer. (My friend.) Why not? (Me.) Do you have kids? (My friend.) Yes. (Me.) Do you love them? (My friend.) Absolutely. (Me.) I have a 12-year-old boy and I love him with everything in me. Frankly…I believe our heavenly Father loves us even more than we love our children. (Me.) Do you want what’s best for your children? (My friend.) Yes…I do. (Me.) I believe our Heavenly Father wants what’s best for you and me and since this is the case then having cancer must be a part of his plan. He IS God and I trust Him. Since I was 19 I have been reading the Bible and trying to truly follow Jesus. (My friend.) So you feel good about all of the chips you have earned. (Me.) Chips? No. There is nothing I could do to earn God’s grace…this is a free gift to anyone who will take it. (Me.) Would you allow me to pray for you? (My friend.) Are you a pastor? (Me.) No. I am just a business guy who is a lot like you. (My friend.) Yes…I would like that. We prayed…I held her hand, I asked God to heal her, to give her peace, to eliminate the fear she has and then I said…amen. (My friend.) When you prayed I felt warm inside? Friends…I do not know why she felt warm inside? I have no clue. What I am blown away by is that I didn’t approach her. She sat next to me. Initiated our conversation. Asked all of the questions and then vulnerably shared she was afraid. If you are afraid…don’t be. For those who place their faith in Jesus are promised an eternity with him; an eternity that will be much better than our present reality. Where we are going is better than where we are. What I have been given and what I have experienced on this earth has been pretty terrific and to think heaven will be better is amazing. Please place your faith in Jesus and embrace the future with me...with no fear. Amen.
