I am almost halfway done with the first draft of my thesis and it - TopicsExpress

I am almost halfway done with the first draft of my thesis and it is starting to take a toll on me. That said - today I wrote what I think is one of the best paragraphs so far: If the constructed modes of deviance attributed to individuals becomes a focal point of identity and discourse within their similarly stigmatised communities; then it stands to reason that it is possible to witness the genesis of new culture defined by what Goffman (1963) defines as inverted norms. In other words, if deviancy becomes a uniting feature amongst a particular minority, then its stigmatic powers are diminished; reducing it to a desirable new trait that will eventually establish itself as an accepted norm. Thus – deviancy (and those that exhibit it) exists in a constant state of uncertainty. Much like Heisenbergs particle, the act of altering the social setting of a norm (in this instance, non-normatively adorned bodies) simultaneously alters its subjective meaning. A norm is nothing without context; thus, a deviant may only be described likewise.
