I am also against east west Railawy in Nepal ..as it would devour our natural resources and destroy the landscape.of villages..produce unmanageable amount of filth n garbage.. From his first journey on the new London to Birmingham line in 1838, Dickens was ambivalent about the Victorian railway-building boom. On the one hand, he wrote vividly in Dombey and Son about trains as toxic monsters that devoured the landscape, referring to their “mighty course of civilization and improvement” rather as someone might praise a vandal for doing a thorough job. On the other hand, he was attracted to the power and speed of trains, and rarely wrote about them without the pulse of his prose rising. It wouldn’t be surprising if he argued strongly against the plans for another London-Birmingham route. It would be even less surprising to find him on the first train zooming through HS2’s long scar across the countryside...... Charles Dickens
